Access to healthcare saves lives in Georgia

In Georgia, we focus on developing healthcare and increasing the accessibility and quality of care, particularly in rural areas. Our current emphasis is on cancer prevention. The goal is to improve the quality and coverage of oncological screening, raise awareness of early detection and prevention, and support the treatment of childhood cancers. We also address mental health. In addition, we worked in social services, inclusive education, environmental protection, and helped people secure their livelihoods.

Why is help in Georgia still needed?

Not everyone in Georgia has equal access to quality healthcare and other essential services. This is especially true in rural areas, where healthcare is often less accessible and people frequently seek medical care too late. Strengthening local healthcare and social systems helps improve the quality of life for entire communities.

How Caritas Czech Republic helps

Cancer prevention and treatment

Cancer prevention and treatment

In Georgia, we work with the Ministry of Health on systemic changes. We focus on improving access to free cancer screening and place strong emphasis on prevention, including raising awareness and improving the availability of services in remote areas. We also support the education and training of healthcare professionals.

Mental health

Mental health

We support healthcare in the field of mental health, with a particular focus on working with women, girls, and vulnerable groups. We aim to improve the quality and efficiency of the healthcare system, strengthen primary healthcare, and enhance coordination between primary and hospital care in the area of mental health, with an emphasis on a gendersensitive approach.

Inclusive education

Inclusive education

For three years, with the support of the Czech Development Agency, we strengthened the system of early childhood development and inclusive education. We renovated five early childhood development centres serving more than one hundred children with special needs and helped train local professionals. Through training and the provision of specialised equipment, we also supported inclusive education in selected Georgian kindergartens.
