Restoring dignified lives after years of conflict

In Syria, a country marked by years of civil war, improving living conditions is our top priority. We have focused on the northern part of the country and on restoring access to safe drinking water. We have also worked to increase the safety of women and girls, with a focus on genderbased violence. In addition, we have been involved in addressing the impacts of the devastating earthquake that struck the Turkish–Syrian border region in 2023.

Why is help in Syria still needed?

Rebuilding the country after years of conflict is a long-term process. Many people still lack reliable access to basic services, while vulnerable groups continue to face an increased risk of poverty and violence. Supporting local communities helps create safer conditions and gives people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and shape a better future.

How Caritas Czech Republic helps

Access to water

Access to water

In the north of the country, in the village of Kaljibrin, we helped restore the local pumping station and water supply system back into operationHaving their own water source saves local people both money and time that they would otherwise spend waiting in lines for water trucks. Thanks to safe, highquality water, they also no longer have to worry about risks to their health.

Support for women and girls

Support for women and girls

Through supportive educational programs for women and girls, we provided information on safety and the prevention of genderbased violence. The programme helped many women and girls find their own voice and has opened pathways to greater selfreliance and further education.

Millions of people on the run in the Middle East – Caritas Czech Republic responds

Since the beginning of March, the situation in the Middle East has continued to worsen significantly. Attacks and increasing insecurity have forced over 4 million people to flee their homes. Caritas Czech Republic is part of the global Caritas network, which supports people in crises and natural disasters. Therefore, we are taking action to provide immediate help. We are allocating 10,000 euros from the Three Kings Collection crisis fund to support Caritas Lebanon. Our sister organisation has operated in the country for a long time and understands local conditions well. If you wish to assist those who have lost their homes in a matter of days, you may contribute to the Caritas for the Middle East fundraising campaign.
