Restoring dignified lives after years of conflict

In Syria, a country marked by years of civil war, improving living conditions is our top priority. We focus on the northern part of the country and on restoring access to safe drinking water. We have also worked to increase the safety of women and girls, with a focus on genderbased violence. In addition, we have been involved in addressing the impacts of the devastating earthquake that struck the Turkish–Syrian border region in 2023.

Why is help in Syria still needed?

Rebuilding the country after years of conflict is a long-term process. Many people still lack reliable access to basic services, while vulnerable groups continue to face an increased risk of poverty and violence. Supporting local communities helps create safer conditions and gives people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and shape a better future.

How Caritas Czech Republic helps

Access to water

Access to water

In the north of the country, in the village of Kaljibrin, we helped restore the local pumping station and water supply system back into operationHaving their own water source saves local people both money and time that they would otherwise spend waiting in lines for water trucks. Thanks to safe, highquality water, they also no longer have to worry about risks to their health.

Support for women and girls

Support for women and girls

Through supportive educational programs for women and girls, we provided information on safety and the prevention of genderbased violence. The programme helps many women and girls find their own voice and has opened pathways to greater selfreliance and further education.
