Nabil trained to be a carpenter and now runs his own firm

Nabil Nihad Jiyad is a 27-year-old man from the Al-Baghdadi district in Iraq. He is married and lives with his wife in an unfinished house, that he does not own. Since he was a little boy, Nabil dreamed of opening his own carpentry shop for riverboats. But after the arrival of ISIS, he could not find any job, let alone start his own business. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic and UNDP, Nabil now has his own general carpentry and riverboat carpentry shop.

Cash assistance helps Ukrainian refugees in Moldova meet their needs in dignity

Caritas Czech Republic started the first phase of EU-funded cash assistance distributions to vulnerable refugees from Ukraine who are housed in the Dubasari, Straseni, Comrat, Ceadir-Lunga and Vulcanesti regions of Moldova. The first families, sheltered in Straseni and Dubasari districts, received financial support in the amount of 2,200 lei  (around EUR 112) per family member. This aid will help them meet their basic needs, restore a sense of normalcy and become more resilient.

Thaer's dream of working in the cooling and air conditioning maintenance business came true

Tháer Hazem Aziz, a 25-year-old newlywed, is also a father-to-be. Despite the fact that he was born and raised in Ramadi, he and his family live Al-Heet today. He was studying before ISIS attacked, but after ISIS he sometimes would his father fix heaters, refrigerators, and cookers. Thaer was unemployed before to enrolling in the Livelihood Initiative, but he had a strong interest in refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment repair and wanted to learn more about it. Thaer was able to work in this field thanks to the Caritas Czech Republic and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Ukrainian refugees sheltered in Moldova start enjoying life again

At the summer camp of Cosnita village in Dubasari district, 130 refugees from Ukraine are currently accommodated. For them, life is divided in two parts -  until February 24, 2022 and after this awful day when Ukraine was attacked by Russia. Caritas Czech Republic in Moldova provided the summer camp with necessary equipment, such as washing machines, refrigerators, but also blankets and pillows, to ensure that the refugees have a comfortable place to stay in a new country.

Manana from Georgia motivates her neighbours to start composting

Manana Metreveli lives in the village of Utsera in the Georgian region of Racha. For many years, she has been making compost to reduce household waste. Thanks to Caritas  Czech Republic in Georgia, Manana improved her composting practices and received a wooden compost box, which is also used by her neighbours. Manana's village has become a role model for developing good composting practices.
