Caritas for Middle East

Help people affected by the crisis in the Middle East

The security and humanitarian situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate. Ongoing attacks and growing instability have forced more than 4 million people from theirhomes. Many have left with only the bare essentials and are now finding temporary refuge in improvised shelters. The need for immediate humanitarian assistance is therefore increasing.

The Caritas network operates throughout the Middle Eastern region, providing people with lifesaving support. Thanks to local staff who know the environment and the communities, help can reach those most in need quickly and effectively.

Funds raised by Caritas Czech Republic will be used to provide material assistance and other essential aid to people in the Middle East.

Gaza Beyond the Headlines: Documentary photography exhibition from the clinic of Caritas Czech Republic

The exhibition Gaza Beyond the Headlines offers viewers a glimpse into the lives of local people – clients of a clinic that is a joint project of Caritas Czech Republic, Caritas Jerusalem, and the local organisation Sawa. The project is co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The intimate photographs of those who were willing to share their experiences were taken in August of this year. Although their situation was already extremely dire at that time, it has deteriorated further in the weeks since. Due to the rapidly worsening security situation and increasing attacks in the area, the clinic's operations have had to be suspended, and a new location is being sought where its activities may be resumed.

Nassim from Iraq was able to open his own blacksmith workshop thanks to support from Caritas Czech Republic

In the small town of Karamles in northern Iraq, the sharp clang of hammer on metal rings out from a modest blacksmith workshop. Inside, 41-year-old Nassim works with practiced ease, bending iron into shape, welding railings, and assembling doors that will protect homes and shops across the region. Thanks to support from Caritas Czech Republic, what started as a passion two decades ago has also become Nassim’s livelihood.
