Caritas for Middle East

Help people affected by the crisis in the Middle East

The security and humanitarian situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate. Ongoing attacks and growing instability have forced more than 4 million people from theirhomes. Many have left with only the bare essentials and are now finding temporary refuge in improvised shelters. The need for immediate humanitarian assistance is therefore increasing.

The Caritas network operates throughout the Middle Eastern region, providing people with lifesaving support. Thanks to local staff who know the environment and the communities, help can reach those most in need quickly and effectively.

Funds raised by Caritas Czech Republic will be used to provide material assistance and other essential aid to people in the Middle East.

Inspiring stories of women who refused to give up

International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the quiet strength and perseverance with which women support their families, communities, and even the entire world every single day. According to UN Women data from 2025, as many as 676 million women live close to armed conflict, and 376 million women and girls survive in extreme poverty below the threshold of 2.15 dollars per day, which is roughly 45 Czech crowns. Additionally, 1.8 billion people still lack access to drinking water at home, and women are responsible for its availibility in two out of three households. This year, Caritas Czech Republic aims to highlight the stories of those who, despite uncertainty and adversity, have found ways to help others – their families, neighbours, communities, and fellow women.

Thanks to the Caritas for Gaza fundraising campaign, we improved healthcare in the northern area

Living conditions in Gaza remain challenging despite the ceasefire. The majority of residents face a daily shortage of food, water, and basic necessities. Ninety-two per cent of houses in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged. Therefore, local people need help from the outside world. Caritas Czech Republic has been focusing its aid there primarily on healthcare and psychosocial assistance. At the end of last year, we collaborated with the organisation Juzoor, which secures accessible and safe health services in Gaza. Thanks to donations from the Caritas for Gaza fundraising campaign, we were able to provide funding for a newly established clinic in the north of the area.

Fragile ceasefire brings hope to Gaza, humanitarian crisis persists

The announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza on 10 October 2025 has brought a long-awaited moment of relief, not only to the population in Gaza, exhausted by two years of relentless conflict, but also to the world. For Palestinians who have endured unimaginable suffering and for Israelis who have lived in anguish over hostages, this truce offers a fragile glimmer of hope. Yet, behind the headlines of peace, the humanitarian catastrophe remains.
